Participants will learn about the latest research available on use of the use of mindfulness and compassion. We will closely look at Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). This will be a highly interactive and experiential mode of learning with the intention to foster greater self-compassion in the treatment provider, thereby decreasing the likelihood of empathy fatigue and also building their own window of tolerance that is necessary to treat complex cases that require long durations of holding space for people who are suffering.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will identify the core mechanisms for change offered in mindfulness and self-compassion training and how this helps both the client and the therapist.
- Participants will learn the necessary augmentation to the standard protocols when working with complex trauma.
- Participants will learn 2 core formal practices and 3 informal practices and how to weave these practices in between sessions and into individual sessions.
Presenters:
Dr. Patty Thomas Shutt is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a co-founder of the Therapeutic Oasis of the Palm Beaches in Boca Raton. Dr. Nicole “Nikki” Davis is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Juris Doctor who has practiced both clinical and forensic psychology - she is currently a clinician at Therapeutic Oasis of the Palm Beaches.
