Featured Speakers: Dr. Harold L. Watkins II

Dr. Harold L. Watkins II, recently appointed to the Norfolk State University Board of Visitors, brings with him 30 years of policy, management and social service experience. Watkins currently serves as Principal of HarryCo LLC, a diversified social services consultancy, which provides evidenced based case management, crisis intervention and therapeutic counseling services to individuals and families. He previously served as President of Renaissance Inc., which operated residential programs for 900 at-risk youth and families from across Virginia.

Watkins’ public policy experience includes tenure as a Senior Research and Policy Analyst for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Inc. and service as a legislative staffer for Virginia State Senator Henry Marsh and Delegate Betsy Carr. His previous higher education board appointments include Board Member, Reynolds Community College Board. Watkins received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1998, Master of Social Work from Norfolk State University in 2001, Master of Public Administration from Walden University in 2007 and a Doctorate in Political Science from Howard University in 2015.

 

Tamika R. Smith
Tamika has served as a Treatment Placement Specialist (TPS) for Acadia Healthcare for just over two years. Prior to her time as a TPS, Tamika worked in Acadia's Children’s Behavior Solutions division, with a specific focus on placement for delinquent youth. Previously, she was director of business development for Meridian Behavior Health, responsible for securing contracts, managing RFP’s, and working to create a residential treatment environment ideal for youth from Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
Tamika graduated from Old Dominion University with a bachelors degree in Psychology. After graduation, Tamika was a member of the US National Field Hockey Team for six years. Following her retirement from field hockey, Tamika went on to earn a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a masters in Sport Psychology. 

In addition to working as a TPS, Tamika is owner and director of Reach Field Hockey Club based in Baltimore, MD. She is also a NCAA Division I field hockey official, field hockey consultant, member of the US Master’s Field Hockey Team, and a sports performance coach. In 2018 Tamika served as team captain for the US Master’s World Cup Team that competed in Barcelona, Spain. Tamika is passionate about working with athletes in transition, mindfulness and experiential therapies, and naturopathic medicine. Tamika currently lives in Columbia, MD.
