PRESENTERS:
Krystal Bush, MSW presenting Introduction to Experiential Therapy Utilizing Active Therapeutic Techniques in Your Practice”

This presentation is designed to be an introduction to experiential therapy and to help therapists understand how to utilize these techniques in their own practice. This program will explore how experiential therapy can serve as a bonding experience, allowing clients to more quickly build a safe container in which to do more deeply rooted work. These experiential therapies are designed to  improve individual client’s self-esteem, promote self-awareness and develop healthy social skills and coping abilities.

BIO: Krystal received her BSW and MSW from Indiana University. During her graduate work, she conducted research on adolescent substance abuse while working as a fellow for Adolescent Medicine of IU Health. Prior to working for The Refuge she spent seven years working with adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges implementing various intervention techniques to gain positive and healthy coping skills.

As the Director of Experiential Therapy, Krystal uses similar techniques to help clients learn positive social interactions through various recreational and therapeutic activities. She oversees the overall operations of the activity and experiential program.

Dawn is passionate about helping her clients find their path to health and healing. Her counseling belief and foundation comes from a wellness approach. It is understanding there is nothing wrong with an individual, but what has happened to them and how it has impacted them in their life that is important.

Patricia Knight, RN CEN presenting “Redefining Detox: The Art and Science of caring for a Substance Use Disorder Patient.”

This presentation will be a hands on experience helping the participants to understand the benefits of a holistic approach during the detox process. We will discuss the benefits of hydration and vitamin supplements and will learn about the natural substances available to manage symptoms of withdrawal which work in conjunction with medical protocols. We will also explore complimentary services (such as acupuncture, massage, yoga), utilization of essential oils and the benefits of a sleep hygiene program.

BIO: Patricia Knight is a Registered Nurse with Board Certification in Emergency Nursing and is Certified in Aromatherapy for General Wellness.  Patricia specializes in substance abuse detoxification and the holistic care of the detox patient. She has a passion for naturals, oriental medicine, essential oils and aromatherapy and particularly enjoys educating others on the benefits of alternative treatments.

As a member of the International Society of Addiction Nursing, Patricia is also an activist and passionate advocate for the treatment of addiction.  As the Nurse Manager at Novus Medical Detox, she is dedicated to leading a top quality healthcare team focused on patient-centered care.
